Lawrence Baum D.V.M.
Dr. Larry Baum is a 1963 graduate of Hamilton Taft High School and a 1969 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He joined Drs. Frank Gluhm, Sr., and Jr., in practice at the Dixie Animal Clinic in 1970, and he acquired the practice in 1980. Dr. Baum is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, the Cincinnati Veterinary Medical Association, and the Butler-Warren Counties Veterinary Medical Association. He is also a member of the Greater Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Baum's interest in animals began in childhood and has continued throughout his life. He is a knowledgeable aquarist and is a member of the International Betta Congress Hall of Fame. Photographs of his exhibition Bettas appear in several Betta books, and one appeared in the inaugural issue of Freshwater & Marine Aquarium. He once bred and raised a wide variety of exotic finches, but his current collection is limited to Gouldian finches.
Dr. Baum and his wife, Linda, live on a farm in Morgan Township with their horses, cats, and Shetland Sheepdogs. Their two sons are grown and have families of their own. Their Shetland Sheepdogs are collectively known as Kingsland Shelties, and they occasionally exhibit them. However, first and foremost, they are their pets. Dr. Baum feels very fortunate to have been able to pursue a veterinary career. It has allowed him to spend his life doing something that he truly loves, and he looks forward to many more years of practice.
